My favourite books on the Menstrual Cycle

Being an author and a bookworm, it goes without saying that my Kindle is FULL of them. I get asked often which are the best to dig into the cycle and life as a woman, but before I share my list, it’s important to understand:

Reading a book won’t solve your menstrual problems.

Seriously. They might help illuminate an issue that’s going on, and will certainly educate you in the wonders of your cycle. But if you’re serious about working on your issues, whether it’s PMS or period pain, there will be work you need to do. It might mean lifestyle changes, diet changes, self-development, supplements - but simply reading and reading….won’t cut it.

So, with that said, and in no particular order:

  1. Red Moon by Miranda Grey

  2. Taking Charge of Your Fertility by Toni Wechsler - this is a must if you’re wanting to understand the biology of your cycle, and how to conceive or avoid pregnancy naturally with the Fertility Awareness Method. It’s a bit pricy, but worth it.

  3. 50 Things You Need To Know About Your Periods by Claire Baker

  4. Wild Power by Alexandra Pope and Sjanie Hugo-Wurlitzer

  5. Moon Time by Lucy Pearce

  6. Period Power by Maisie Hill

  7. Women Who Run With The Wolves by Dr Clarissa Pinkola-Estes - this isn’t strictly a cycle book but it speaks very well to the feminine experience

  8. Her Blood Is Gold by Lara Owen

  9. In The Flo by Alissa Vitti

  10. Goddesses in Every Woman by Jean Shinoda Bolen M.D. - this isn’t about cycles, but archetypes which are also a way of relating to the cycle itself

Have fun reading but remember, no book can do the work for you! If you’d like to see how coaching can help you on your journey, schedule your free 30min call with me or check out my menstrual cycle coaching space.
